Islamabad: Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam has assured the affectees of the Diamer Bhasha Dam of addressing their genuine demands with sincerity and mutual consensus. He was chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad today to address the longstanding issues of Diamer Bhasha Dam affectees on special instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Radio Pakistan, Amir Muqam stated that the Prime Minister has issued clear directives for a permanent resolution of this issue. He added that the government’s strategy is based on transparency, inclusiveness, and public welfare, ensuring that those who have made sacrifices for the country’s largest hydroelectric project are given due respect and necessary facilities.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Watto, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan, WAPDA Chairman Lieutenant General retired Sajjad Ghani, and other officials. Representatives of the Diamer Bhasha Dam affectees were also present to directly convey their demands to the federal leadership.
Speaking on the occasion, Mueen Watto reiterated the unwavering commitment of the federal government to resolving the longstanding issues of the affected population. He said that under the clear directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, tangible progress is being made in compensations, access to clean water, sanitation, schools, and other critical infrastructure development in the area.
Azam Nazeer Tarar acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, reaffirming that their concerns have been recognized at the federal level. Rana Sanaullah highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s firm commitment to resolving the issue.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to formulate a comprehensive strategy to resolve the issues of the affectees in a sustainable and transparent manner.
