Govt Prioritizes SME Promotion, Says PM


Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the government is focusing on the promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a priority. He made this statement while chairing a meeting of the Steering Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) on Tuesday.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of small and medium industries in the development and economic progress of the country. The meeting covered various reforms being implemented in SMEDA and the steps undertaken to support the SME sector.



It was revealed during the meeting that businesses with an annual turnover of up to 30 million rupees have been classified as micro enterprises and are now under the purview of SMEDA. Additionally, a draft of the Women Entrepreneurship Policy is prepared and will soon be submitted to the federal cabinet for approval. A dedicated digital portal for women in SMEDA is also in the pipeline and expected to launch shortly.
