Govt Pledges Support for Auto Industry Transition to Electric Vehicles

Islamabad: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar has announced that the government is committed to ensuring the growth of the auto industry by offering special incentives to promote the adoption of electric vehicles across the nation. During a meeting with Danial Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Master Changan Motors, Akhtar emphasized the government’s dedication to developing a sustainable and modern auto policy that aligns with global trends.

According to Radio Pakistan, Akhtar stated that the upcoming EV policy would provide a comprehensive framework for infrastructure development, investment incentives, and policy facilitation. The discussions between Akhtar and Malik highlighted the importance of transitioning towards New Energy Vehicles, especially electric vehicles, as a national priority.

In a separate meeting with Hiroshi Kawamura, Managing Director of Suzuki Motors, Akhtar reiterated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s deep commitment to the growth of the auto sector. Kawamura expressed concerns over the proposed increase in sales tax on vehicles under 850cc from 12.5 percent to 18 percent, warning that such measures might negatively impact the automotive sector.

Responding to these concerns, Akhtar assured that the Prime Minister would not allow the sector to falter and pledged continued engagement with industry stakeholders to navigate challenges and seize growth opportunities.
