Govt Pledges Commitment to Food Security and Nutrition on World Food Day


Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have renewed their commitment to ensuring that all citizens have access to adequate, balanced, and quality food, as well as to eliminating malnutrition across the country.



According to Radio Pakistan, both leaders emphasized these pledges in their separate messages on World Food Day, which is being observed today. They highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote climate-smart farming practices and to strengthen food supply chains. In his statement, President Zardari emphasized initiatives aimed at reducing food waste and enhancing productivity as central components of these efforts.



Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his statement, noted that the government is developing a strategy to mitigate the impacts of climate change by utilizing available resources. The strategy aims to ensure a sustainable and resilient food system for the nation.



Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has called for a unified strategy to tackle climate change and secure food security. In his World Food Day message, he stressed the shared responsibility of leading Pakistan towards food self-sufficiency. The Chief Minister highlighted the Sindh government’s concrete steps towards food security, prioritizing agricultural development and implementing a comprehensive plan to eradicate malnutrition and poverty.
