Govt Launches Emission Testing System to Combat Pollution in Punjab

Lahore: Deputy Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab, Ali Ejaz, has announced that the provincial government is implementing crucial measures to safeguard the environment and address pollution issues.

According to Radio Pakistan, in an exclusive interview with their correspondent Qasim Bukhari on World Environment Day, Ali Ejaz identified vehicular emissions as a major contributor to environmental pollution in Punjab. To counter this, the Punjab government has introduced an Emission Testing System designed to help citizens ensure their vehicles meet environmental standards.

Ali Ejaz shared that, under the direction of Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, the number of emission testing booths in Lahore has been significantly increased. Currently, 60 booths are operational across various city locations, including Gajjumatta, Saggian Toll Plaza, and Central Park, among others.

He explained that these booths are strategically placed in key areas such as Bedian Road, Valencia Town, Race Course Park, and Minar-e-Pakistan. They will issue green stickers to vehicles that pass the emissions test, promoting compliance with environmental regulations.

Furthermore, Ali Ejaz highlighted that emission testing facilities have been established in prominent educational institutions, including Punjab University, LUMS, and Aitchison College. He urged the public to ensure their vehicles undergo testing before the June 30 deadline.
