Govt Initiates Strategic Measures for Overseas Employment Opportunities: Salik

Islamabad: The Senate was informed today about significant developments regarding overseas job opportunities and infrastructure projects. Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan revealed during the question hour that the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway's construction is set to commence this year. The motorway project has made notable progress, with three out of its five sections already approved and the tendering process underway.

According to Radio Pakistan, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain highlighted in a written reply the government's efforts to create new job opportunities for Pakistanis abroad. The government is actively expanding labor mobility through bilateral cooperation frameworks. A significant highlight is the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Italy, which allocates an annual quota of approximately 3500 workers in various sectors such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and ICT for three years. A high-level committee has been established to facilitate employee engagement and maximize quota utilization.

In response to opposition members' concerns, Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sana Ullah Khan assured that the PTI founder and his spouse are receiving optimal medical treatment. However, he pointed out that certain meetings with the PTI founder violated rules and jail manuals, as they were utilized for political purposes.

In other developments, the Upper House successfully passed two bills: the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council Bill, 2026, and The Special Economic Zones Amendment Bill, 2026. The House is scheduled to reconvene on Monday at five pm.
