Govt Accelerates Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Residents in Pakistan


Islamabad: The government has decided to accelerate operations against foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan. The decision was taken at a meeting of Counter-Terrorism and Harden the State Committees, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Interior Minister emphasized the role of NADRA in providing live data verification facilities at exit points to support these operations. He stressed the importance of collaboration between all federal and provincial agencies and institutions to fully implement the “One Document Regime” and eliminate illegal activities within the country.



Minister Naqvi also highlighted the need for strict action against the beggar mafia and proposed declaring begging a non-bailable offense. In terms of combating power pilferage, he assured that every possible support is being extended to the Ministry of Energy and provincial governments to curb electricity theft.



The meeting was informed that through cooperative efforts between the Interior Ministry and provincial governments, 142 billion rupees have been recovered. Progress on various initiatives such as anti-encroachment operations and the establishment of the Pakistan Port Authority was also reviewed.



Discussions included updates on the ‘Gwadar City Safe City Project’ and the construction of a protection wall. The meeting was briefed on the setup of digital enforcement stations along the Indus River and ongoing work to develop an Intelligent Transportation System for effective monitoring on motorways and national highways.



Additionally, the progress on the digitization of petrol pumps was examined to curb the sale of illegal and smuggled fuel.
