Government Vows to Safeguard Press Freedom, Says PM


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting press freedom and ensuring a secure environment for journalists. In a message marking the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, he emphasized that independent journalism is crucial for a strong, transparent, and democratic Pakistan.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed the government’s determination to implement measures for the effective investigation of crimes against journalists, ensure justice, and take legal action against perpetrators. He called upon the international community, media institutions, and civil society to contribute to the protection of journalists and the promotion of freedom of expression.



Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that this day serves as a reminder that free, informed, and responsible journalism is the cornerstone of any democratic society. He acknowledged the role of journalists in providing public access to facts and being the torchbearers of truth.



The Prime Minister condemned acts of violence, intimidation, or retaliation against journalists, viewing them as attacks on freedom of expression. He paid tribute to journalists who have faced difficulties in the pursuit of truth and honesty and expressed solidarity with the families of writers and media workers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
