Government Committed to Preventing Repeat of May 9 Events, Says Interior Minister

Islamabad:Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the government's commitment to preventing a recurrence of events similar to those of May 9. He highlighted that negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were conducted in good faith, despite interference from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, who attempted to undermine the process.

According to Radio Pakistan, during a news conference, the Minister expressed disappointment that the opposition withdrew from a commitment after a draft agreement was prepared. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister's attempts to alter the final draft were noted, reflecting a lack of seriousness in combating terrorism.

The Interior Minister assured that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif were continuously updated on developments. The government's primary goal is to foster unity among all parties in addressing terrorism.

Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that the government will not tolerate any recurrence of May 9-like events. He stressed that the law will be rigorously enforced, with no leniency shown towards violators.

He further warned that any loss of life or damage during the long march would be regarded as contempt of court, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister would be held accountable for any casualties.
