Government Amplifies Educational Support for Over 75,000 Deserving Students

Islamabad: Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah announced that over 75,000 students have benefited from educational support under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal's Individual Financial Assistance (Education) Programme since 2004, with expenditures surpassing two billion rupees.

According to Radio Pakistan, during his visit to the National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad, the Minister discussed the disbursement, transparency, and effectiveness of the educational scholarships provided through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal. He highlighted that from July 2024 to June 2025, financial assistance totaling over 290 million rupees was granted to 8,059 students, and from July 2025 to February 2026, more than 200 million rupees has been distributed among 5,519 students.

The Minister also stated that the annual cap for educational assistance has been raised from 100,000 rupees to 150,000 rupees per student, allowing deserving students to pursue their education without financial barriers. He further revealed that from 2008 to 2026, a total of 6,739 students at NUML Islamabad have received educational aid amounting to approximately 240 million rupees.

Syed Imran Ahmad Shah noted that during the current financial year 2025-26, financial assistance worth approximately 9 million rupees has been provided to 171 students, demonstrating the ongoing support efforts. Additionally, he emphasized the aid given to students with serious illnesses through the Medical Assistance Programme, with the financial assistance ceiling increased from one million rupees to 1.5 million rupees per patient to ensure timely medical treatment.
