Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Wednesday inaugurated the workshop of the Council of Chairpersons of the Punjab Provincial Assembly in Islamabad. The event was organized by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services in collaboration with the European Union.
According to Radio Pakistan, Chairman Senate Gillani emphasized that the real strength of any parliament lies in its standing and special committees. These committees are crucial for legislation, budget scrutiny, and incorporating public aspirations into policymaking. He stressed the importance of enhancing the capacities of parliamentarians and staff to improve parliamentary performance in line with international standards.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani highlighted that the committees of the Upper House have consistently served as effective platforms for building consensus, deliberating on complex national issues, and amplifying the voices of marginalized segments. He noted that all provinces enjoy equal representation in the Senate, ensuring comprehensive discussion of issues from across the country.
Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan also addressed the event, asserting that parliament is the foundation of the entire state system, from which all state organs originate. He stated that parliament, with its houses and provincial assemblies, is where democracy is truly reflected through the elected representatives of the people.
