Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has emphasized the importance of geo-economics as a fundamental aspect of Pakistan's foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He highlighted that the government is implementing tough but necessary reforms with clear objectives and determination.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister made these remarks during the closing session of the Pakistan Policy Dialogue 2026, organized by the Policy Research and Advisory Council in Islamabad. He emphasized that economic correction requires a solid foundation, responsible governance, consistent policies, and institutional reforms to achieve economic stability.
Dar pointed out that significant measures, such as the privatization of state-owned enterprises, reduction of circular debt, government rightsizing, and digital governance, are yielding positive results. These efforts are reflected in the current account surplus, decreased inflation, increased revenues, and renewed investor confidence.
He reiterated the centrality of geo-economics in Pakistan's foreign policy, emphasizing the importance of CPEC 2.0 with China and expanding economic ties with the United States, Europe, the Gulf, and Central Asia. He noted that these initiatives are fostering trade, investment, connectivity, and job creation, while also seeking new opportunities in East Asia and Africa.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that the next phase should focus on translating reforms into tangible outcomes to sustain economic stability and unlock inclusive prosperity for all Pakistanis.
