FO Terms India’s Rhetoric in Statements as Regrettable

Islamabad: The Foreign Office has expressed regret over the rhetoric in statements emanating from India. At his weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shafqat Ali Khan, stated that during a time of heightened tensions in the region, indulging in such rhetoric is highly imprudent as it is inflammatory and provocative.

According to Radio Pakistan, Khan mentioned that Pakistan has cautioned India on repeated occasions to desist from such actions. He reiterated Pakistan's commitment to the ceasefire announced earlier this month, emphasizing that both sides have taken steps towards de-escalation and stability. However, he warned that Pakistan would respond appropriately if India were to take any aggressive action against the country again.

Khan affirmed Pakistan's commitment to maintaining the ceasefire for successful de-escalation but highlighted that the rhetoric threatens this process. He assured that Pakistan's armed forces are prepared to deal with any potential threats.

Regarding the Kartarpur Corridor, Khan noted that Pakistan has kept the corridor open despite recent hostilities, while the Indian side has not allowed pilgrims to use the facility since earlier this month. He stated that Pakistan is ready to welcome Indian pilgrims.

Shifting the focus to the situation in Palestine, Shafqat Ali Khan condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has resulted in numerous Palestinian deaths and the targeting of critical infrastructure. He expressed concern over the expansion of Israeli operations in Gaza, describing it as a grave threat to peace efforts.

Khan called on the international community to end Israel's actions immediately and ensure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasized Pakistan's opposition to any attempts to displace Palestinians, expand illegal Israeli settlements, or annex occupied Palestinian territories.
