Islamabad: The first e-balloting under the Electric Vehicles Scheme was conducted in Islamabad today. Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum officiated the balloting process to allocate subsidized electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles to applicants from across Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
According to Radio Pakistan, the transparent and secure digital balloting was conducted through the “PAVE Online Portal” under the supervision of a designated Balloting Oversight Committee to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all. A total of 269,161 applications were received, out of which 40,000 applicants were declared eligible for e-balloting. In today’s draw, 40,000 electric two-wheeler vehicles and 1,000 electric three-wheeler vehicles were allotted to successful applicants. Applicants will be notified via the online portal using their CNIC or application number.
Speaking on the occasion, Saif Anjum stated that by 2030, 30 percent of all new vehicles sold in Pakistan will be electric. Under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme, direct subsidies are being provided to low-income citizens to support the purchase of electric vehicles. The Secretary noted that for two-wheeler vehicles, a subsidy of fifty thousand rupees will be offered on bank lease and eighty thousand rupees on self-financing. For three-wheeler vehicles, the subsidy will be two-hundred thousand rupees on bank lease and four-thousand rupees on self-financing. He emphasized that the scheme aims to reduce dependence on oil imports, with a projected annual savings of one billion dollar.
He further mentioned that by 2030, carbon dioxide emissions are expected to decrease by 4.5 million tons, leading to improved air quality across Pakistan and a reduction in healthcare costs related to pollution. Saif Anjum also highlighted that the PAVE Scheme, along with the National EV Policy, is expected to generate over 100,000 new jobs.
He concluded by remarking that the first phase of e-balloting was successfully completed through a transparent and secure digital system, marking the beginning of Pakistan’s green transport revolution.
