Feasibility Study to Explore Water Potential of Soan River Being Carried Out


Islamabad: The Senate was informed today that a feasibility study is being carried out for exploring the water potential of the Soan River. Minister of State for Law and Justice, Aqeel Malik, shared this information during the Question Hour, stating that consultants have proposed constructing two low-head weirs across the Soan River.



According to Radio Pakistan, the primary objective of these proposed projects is to divert the Soan River flows for irrigation supplies to the adjoining areas. This initiative aims to enhance the agricultural potential and ensure better utilization of available surface water resources. The feasibility study is expected to be completed by January next year.



Responding to another question, the Minister of State expressed the government’s commitment to further strengthening the Child Protection Institute. Minister for Law, Azam Nazeer Tarar, emphasized the government’s focus on digitization and capacity building to enhance access to justice. He highlighted the establishment of provincial judicial academies and an international mediation center where training is provided to legal professionals.



The Senate also passed a resolution to extend the Frontier Constabulary (Reorganization) Ordinance 2025 for a further period of one hundred and twenty days, as moved by Minister of State for Law and Justice Aqeel Malik. Additionally, the House passed three bills: the ‘Federal Prosecution Service Amendment Bill, 2025’, ‘The Capital Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2025’, and ‘The National School of Public Policy (Amendment) Bill, 2025’.
