Multan: An awareness seminar highlighting the need to curb digital intolerance and counter the online spread of violent extremism was held in Multan today. The seminar was organized by the Media Cell for Countering Violent Extremism of the Press Information Department. It aimed at sensitizing participants, particularly youth, about the negative social impact of misuse of social media and the importance of responsible digital behaviour.
According to Radio Pakistan, students and faculty members from Bahauddin Zakariya University and Women University Multan, along with people from different walks of life, attended the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that social media, while being a powerful tool for communication and opinion-making, is increasingly being misused to promote hatred, intolerance, and extremist narratives. They underlined the key role of media, educational institutions, and civil society in countering violent extremism and called for greater youth engagement in the positive, ethical, and constructive use of social media. They also emphasized the need for collective efforts to counter fake news, hate speech, and disinformation.
