Brussels: The European Union has commended Pakistan’s efforts for achieving a 47 percent reduction in attempts to reach Europe through illegal “dunki” routes during the past year. European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner expressed this appreciation at a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Brussels.
According to Radio Pakistan, Magnus Brunner described Pakistan’s measures to check illegal migration as exemplary. He stated his intention to visit Pakistan soon to acknowledge these efforts and to engage in direct consultations on the way forward.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the arrest of 1,770 human smugglers and their agents in Pakistan this year, emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration.
Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening joint and coordinated strategies against illegal immigration, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. They also committed to enhancing all possible cooperation, including the exchange of information.
