Islamabad: On the directions of the Prime Minister, the 17th meeting of the Emergency Response Committee convened at the National Emergencies Operations Centre, NDMA Headquarters in Islamabad today. Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal presided over the meeting.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Committee assessed the prevailing monsoon situation, hydrological conditions, weather outlook, and emergency response measures across the country. The National Emergencies Operations Centre presented a comprehensive briefing, focusing on weather forecasts, river flows, and vulnerable locations. The northern regions are expected to experience rain until Friday, potentially causing localized emergencies.

The Rawalpindi district administration updated the session on the situation in Nullah Lai, highlighting that departments are on high alert, with evacuation efforts supported by Civil Defence, police, and Rescue 1122. Provincial authorities discussed preparedness, resource availability, evacuation plans, and coordination with district administrations.

Federal and provincial departments shared updates on the flood situation and response measures. The Committee reviewed ongoing rescue and relief operations, resource deployment, coordination, and risk management in vulnerable areas. Emphasis was placed on maintaining communication, early warnings, and operational readiness.

Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed the importance of coordination and timely implementation of preparedness and response strategies by all relevant departments and agencies.
