DPM Underlines Need for Peaceful Resolution of Kashmir Dispute

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has emphasized the need for a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council’s resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. Addressing a ceremony in connection with the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in Islamabad today, he said the world is witnessing growing instability, widening inequalities, and erosion of trust between nations as well as in institutions established to safeguard global peace and prosperity.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that old and new conflicts continue to fester, while long-standing disputes such as Jammu and Kashmir, and Palestine remind the international community that the promise of self-determination and justice remains unfulfilled for millions. He noted that the worsening impacts of climate change transcend borders and generations, while structural flaws in financial and trading systems continue to impede sustainable development and deepen inequality across the Global South.

Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep commitment to the ideals and principles of the UN Charter, underscoring that inclusive, representative, and reformed multilateralism is vital for shared security and prosperity. He said Pakistan, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, is committed to working for reforms in the Council and the overall UN system.

He further stated that Pakistan has actively contributed to peacekeeping, humanitarian, and development efforts of the United Nations. Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan aspires to an international order defined by cooperation, inclusion, and peaceful coexistence, reaffirming the country’s enduring commitment to multilateralism.
