Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called for the removal of artificial obstacles in the functioning of SAARC to enable it to operate effectively. He made these remarks while addressing the Islamabad Conclave 2025, themed “Reimagining South Asia: Security, Economy, Climate, Connectivity.”

According to Radio Pakistan, Deputy Prime Minister Dar emphasized that SAARC remains the primary instrument for regional cooperation. He highlighted Pakistan’s vision for a connected South Asia, promoting economic synergy, peaceful resolution of disputes, and maintaining peace with dignity. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with willing partners to realize South Asia’s potential.

Dar stressed the need to reimagine South Asia, focusing on pathways to peace, progress, and prosperity. He emphasized that regional security, economic fragility, and climate challenges cannot be tackled in an environment of political fragmentation. He advocated for national development and regional priorities free from external rigidity.

Addressing past conflicts, Dar noted Pakistan’s resolve and capability to deter aggression. He mentioned that sustainable peace in South Asia requires more than strategic stability, emphasizing a just solution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. On climate change, he called for regional cooperation in water management, climate adaptation, and resilient agricultural policies. He highlighted the importance of investments in renewable energy and disaster preparedness for sustainable development.

Dar expressed Pakistan’s desire for a just, equitable, and inclusive world order, opposing bloc politics and emphasizing cooperation over confrontation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism based on international law, the UN charter, and reformed institutions. He underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and international cooperation for peaceful dispute resolution.
