Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has expressed his support for the adoption of the Manila Plan of Action 2026-2036, emphasizing Pakistan's dedication to its effective implementation. He addressed the 33rd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting in Manila, Philippines.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan's steadfast commitment to the objectives and principles of the ASEAN Regional Forum. He urged a collective effort to foster a peaceful and inclusive region, underpinned by sovereign equality, mutual respect, and dialogue. In light of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, he reaffirmed Pakistan's adherence to its foundational principles of dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the ASEAN Regional Forum's critical role in regional security, advocating for its continued focus on preventive diplomacy amidst a complex strategic environment. He emphasized the need for the forum to remain dynamic and forward-looking.
Addressing developments in the Middle East, Ishaq Dar noted the significant impact of the Gulf region's situation on all countries, commending Pakistan's efforts in promoting peace and stability. He acknowledged the confidence placed in Pakistan by international stakeholders and highlighted the diplomatic achievements that have paved the way for lasting peace.
On the topic of regional disputes, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed concern over the unresolved Jammu and Kashmir conflict, attributing it to regional instability. He criticized India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a provocative violation of international obligations. He urged international and ASEAN Regional Forum members to support peaceful resolutions and uphold international law.
Regarding terrorism, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan's unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism. He called for enhanced international cooperation and urged the Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan territory for regional threats. He appealed to ASEAN Regional Forum members to back efforts to secure regional peace and security.
