DPM Addresses UN, OIC on Human Rights Issues in IIOJK

Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar addressed letters to the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of the United Nations Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, apprising them of the grave human rights situation in IIOJK.

According to Radio Pakistan, he highlighted India’s continued denial of the fundamental human rights of the Kashmiri people for more than seven decades, in blatant violation of international law and relevant UNSC resolutions.

He cautioned that India’s persistent defiance of these obligations, coupled with the increasingly hostile and irresponsible rhetoric of its leadership, aggravates tensions in the region and poses a grave threat to regional peace and stability.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also organized a special briefing for members of the Diplomatic Corps in Islamabad. A short documentary depicting Indian atrocities in IIOJK was screened for the diplomats.
