Deputy PM Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to UN Charter Principles

Islamabad:Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reiterated Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ishaq Dar made these remarks during a talk by UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad. The talk was focused on "Strengthening Multilateralism in a Changing World - Geopolitics and the Role of the United Nations."

Dar emphasized the importance of upholding international law and implementing UN Security Council resolutions. He highlighted that multilateralism, with the UN at its core, is a fundamental pillar of Pakistan's foreign policy. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of diplomacy and peaceful resolutions for the Palestinian question and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

In his address, UN Secretary-General António Guterres acknowledged Pakistan's generosity, resilience, and solidarity during his two decades of service to the United Nations, including his tenure as High Commissioner for Refugees. He warned of interconnected global challenges such as conflict, inequality, climate change, and artificial intelligence, advocating for stronger multilateral cooperation through a reformed and more representative United Nations to tackle these issues. Guterres also expressed confidence in the people of Pakistan and their spirit of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect.
