Karachi: The 44th death anniversary of famous Pakistani classical and Ghazal singer Mukhtar Begum was observed on Wednesday. Mukhtar Begum was a celebrated figure in the realm of classical music, known for her proficiency in Thumri, Dadra, and Ghazal singing.
According to Radio Pakistan, Mukhtar Begum received her initial training in classical music from the renowned musician of the Patiala Gharana, Ustad Ashiq Ali Khan. Her musical journey did not stop there, as she further honed her skills under the guidance of Ustad Allah Diya Khan Mehrban, Ustad Fatu Khan, Pandit Shambhu Maharaj, and Pandit Machhu Maharaj.
Mukhtar Begum's influence extended beyond her performances, as she trained several notable artists. Her legacy includes her younger sister Farida Khanum, who is a celebrated singer in her own right, as well as Naseem Begum and actress Rani. Mukhtar Begum passed away on this day in 1982 in Karachi, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of classical music.
