Karachi: The 17th death anniversary of prominent Urdu poet, writer, and columnist Shabnam Romani is being observed on Tuesday. Shabnam Romani, born as Mirza Azim Baig Chughtai on December 30, 1928, in Shah Jahanpur, migrated with his family to Karachi following the partition.
According to Radio Pakistan, Shabnam Romani was a notable figure in the literary circles of Karachi. His poetry collections, including 'Masnavi Sair-e-Karachi,' 'Jazeera,' 'Harf-e Nisbet,' 'Tohmat,' and 'Dosra Himala,' gained popularity and recognition. Apart from his poetry, he contributed a long-standing literary column titled 'Hyde Park' in the daily newspaper 'Mashriq.'
In 1989, Shabnam Romani launched the literary journal 'Aqdaar,' which received positive acclaim in literary communities. His contributions to Urdu literature and journalism continue to be remembered and celebrated. Shabnam Romani passed away in Karachi on this day in 2009.
