Death Anniversary of Poet Shaikh Ayaz Commemorated


Islamabad: The 28th death anniversary of Shaikh Ayaz, a distinguished Urdu and Sindhi poet, fiction writer, scholar, and educationist, is being observed today. Born in 1923 in Shikarpur, Ayaz left a lasting legacy through his literary contributions.



According to Radio Pakistan, Shaikh Ayaz completed his graduation and obtained a law degree. He went on to author a total of 60 books, showcasing his prowess in both Urdu and Sindhi literature. One of his significant accomplishments was the translation of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s renowned collection of poetry, “Shah Jo Risalo,” into Urdu.



In recognition of his literary services, Ayaz was honored with the ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’ award. He passed away on this day in 1997 in Karachi and was laid to rest in the compound of Shah Latif’s shrine in Bhit Shah.
