Karachi: The 94th death anniversary of the prominent leader of the Pakistan movement, journalist, and poet Raees-ul-Ahrar Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar was observed today. Born on December 10, 1878, in Rampur, British India, Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar pursued his education at Ali Gharh College and Lincoln College, Oxford. He became a staunch advocate for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims, which eventually led to the formation of Pakistan.

According to Radio Pakistan, Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar was a leading figure in the Khilafat Movement, a significant political campaign during the British rule in India. In 1911, he launched his influential English weekly, “Comrade,” from Calcutta, followed by his Urdu weekly, “Hamdard,” from Delhi in 1913. His literary contributions also include a collection of poetry published as “Deewan-e-Jauhar.”

Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar passed away in London on this day in 1931. Fulfilling his final wish, he was laid to rest in Jerusalem. His legacy as a leader, journalist, and poet continues to be remembered and celebrated.
