Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a high-level meeting at the CM House to review the arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram.

According to Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the meeting was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Riaz Shah Sheerazi, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Senator Waqar Mehdi, Inspector General of Police, Home Secretary, Karachi Commissioner, Principal Secretary to CM, and other senior officials. Representatives of K-Electric, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board were also present. Prominent Ulema from various schools of thought, including Allama Syed Razi Jafar, Allama Nisar Qalandrani, Maulana Asghar Shahidi, Maulana Syed Bahadur Hasan, Maulana Sadiq Jafari, Syed Naseem Haider, and Syed Shabbir Raza, attended the meeting and shared their input.

The Chief Minister lauded the Ulema for their efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and sectarian peace across the province, especially during the sensitive month of Muharram. ‘Ulema from various sects have always advocated the message of love, peace, and brotherhood, particularly in Sindh,’ CM stated.

Mr Shah emphasised the significance of Muharram as a month of sacrifice, patience, and unity. ‘Majalis and Ashura processions convey the message of standing firm in the face of oppression and injustice,’ he added. He said respecting each other’s beliefs is essential for maintaining peace and religious harmony in society.

Murad Shah also sought suggestions from the Ulema to ensure smooth arrangements during Muharram. Acting promptly, he issued directives based on the recommendations provided by the ulemas.

The CM instructed the relevant authorities to ensure comprehensive preparations in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Local government institutions were directed to ensure cleanliness and sanitation in all neighbourhoods, especially around Imambargahs and procession routes.

The Chief Minister also directed K-Electric and other power distribution companies to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Muharram. ‘No effort should be spared in ensuring availability of water, electricity, and other essential facilities during majalis and Ashura processions,’ CM Murad Ali Shah emphasised.
