Davos: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has stated that climate change significantly impacts Pakistan's GDP growth and resources. He expressed these views during a discussion on global debt at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized that for Pakistan, climate change is a tangible issue due to the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related calamities. He highlighted the government's decision to launch an inaugural Panda Bond by the end of the month, which will be a green bond aimed at providing assistance to the people.
In a high-level panel discussion on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Aurangzeb underscored the importance of fiscal discipline, productive use of debt, and export-led growth as essential strategies for unlocking new sources of economic growth. He stated that for countries like Pakistan, debt should be channeled toward investments that generate exportable surplus rather than consumption, facilitating sustainable repayment and long-term growth.
