Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari recently held a meeting with senior representatives from Oracle Corporation to discuss collaboration opportunities aimed at digitizing and automating Pakistan’s power sector.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting was led by Mike Ballard, Vice President of Industry Strategy for Oracle. The focus was on modernizing the energy sector by adopting digital technologies to enhance operational performance, increase transparency, and improve services for consumers.
Minister Leghari emphasized the significance of embracing the rapid growth of information technology. He noted that partnerships with global technology firms like Oracle could assist Pakistan in building a more efficient, transparent, and consumer-friendly power system. He pointed out that the purpose of digitization extends beyond ensuring returns on investment to include enhancing transparency, improving accountability, and promoting long-term performance.
The Oracle delegation expressed support for the Government of Pakistan’s vision. They proposed modern solutions such as smart metering and data analytics to improve system performance and deliver quality services to consumers. Mike Ballard highlighted Oracle’s experience in addressing non-technical losses in countries like the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Japan, expressing confidence that Pakistan could benefit from their expertise.
