Aurangzeb in Washington to Attend High-Level Economic Meetings


Washington: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is in Washington on a six-day visit to the United States to attend IMF and World Bank annual meetings. He will represent Pakistan in these meetings and will meet senior officials of international financial institutions and his counterparts from China, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan.



According to Radio Pakistan, Aurangzeb’s schedule includes meetings with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank President Ajay Banga, senior White House officials, and the Chairman of the Congressional Financial Services Committee. He will address the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan (MENAP) forum as a keynote speaker.



The Finance Minister will participate in a regional roundtable organized by the World Bank on the Federal Board of Revenue’s digital transformation, where tax officials from participating countries will highlight their respective tax reforms. He will also attend events organized by the World Economic Forum.



Aurangzeb plans to discuss tax proposals and investment opportunities in Pakistan with officials and members of the US-Pakistan Business Council. He will meet with officials from global credit rating agencies and commercial banks, especially Middle Eastern investment banks, to highlight Pakistan’s economic scenario.



During his visit, the Finance Minister will engage with leading US think tanks, including the Atlantic Council and the Peterson Institute of International Economics, and meet with prominent members of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States.
