Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has emphasized the need to formulate an editorial policy to regulate digital media to check extremism, women harassment, and violence. He was addressing members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Assembly in Islamabad today.
According to Radio Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar stressed the importance of competing with political rivals on the basis of performance rather than point-scoring and mere criticism. He said fake news and disinformation have become a potent threat to society. It is unfortunate that the politics of point-scoring and narrative-building has overshadowed the agenda of development and progress.
Highlighting the potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Attaullah Tarar said despite possessing enormous natural resources worth billions of dollars, the province is facing backwardness due to the absence of a merit-based and transparent system. He emphasized that the province's resources should be utilized for the progress and welfare of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Referring to PML-N's initiatives for the welfare of the common man, the Minister cited projects such as the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Daanish Schools, the Laptop Scheme, and the installation of Safe City cameras. He said laptops and scholarships were distributed purely on the basis of merit, while alumni of Daanish Schools are earning respectable livelihoods.
Attaullah Tarar also described the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Assembly as a leading platform for equipping young minds with policymaking skills and the ability to work under pressure. He also administered the oath to the office bearers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Youth Assembly.
