Asim Calls for Reform of Global Financial Institutions at UN Debate

New york: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the urgent need for restructuring global financial and economic governance on equitable, inclusive, and democratic principles. He made these remarks during the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate on “The United Nations Organization: Looking into the Future”.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad reiterated the necessity of reforming international financial institutions to ensure fair access to concessional financing, provide meaningful debt relief, and achieve a more balanced allocation of Special Drawing Rights.

He further stated that the UN Security Council should undergo reform through an inclusive, democratic, and consensus-based process. This reform should aim to expand elected representation, reject new permanent privileges, and enhance accountability to the broader UN membership.
