APHC Condemns Arbitrary Arrests of Kashmiri Leaders, Activists

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has vehemently denounced the unrelenting arbitrary arrests and prolonged detentions of Kashmiri leaders and activists by the Delhi-installed administration led by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the arrests a deliberate attempt to crush the Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle for freedom.

According to Radio Pakistan, since August 5, 2019, India’s brutal crackdown in the occupied territory has intensified, with thousands of Kashmiris languishing in prisons under draconian laws like the Public Safety Act and Unlawful Activities Act without fair trial. Indian authorities are reportedly forcing detained youth to make false statements aimed at maligning the peaceful resistance movement.

Meanwhile, Indian police launched a sweeping crackdown in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, raiding at least thirty-two locations across Srinagar district alone. The operations targeted the homes of human rights defenders and pro-freedom activists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Eyewitnesses reported that women and children were harassed, and several people were subjected to intimidating questioning. The raids are part of an intensified campaign following the Pahalgam false flag operation staged by Indian forces in the territory. In a related development, Indian troops continued a cordon and search operation in Udhampur district of Jammu region.

On the other hand, Jailed Kashmiri MP Engineer Rasheed began a 24-hour hunger strike inside Tihar Jail to protest the denial of democratic and legal rights to Kashmiris.
