Islamabad: Renowned defense and international relations analysts, terming the visit of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, to the United States as highly successful, have said it will help further strengthen ties between the two countries. Speaking in Radio Pakistan’s Current Affairs channel programme “Perspective”, prominent analyst of International Relations Dr. Aqeela Asif said Pakistan Army is one of the strongest and most well-established institutions in the country.
According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Aqeela Asif expressed pride that the Field Marshal and Army Chief represented Pakistan in the United States, where he held a significant one-on-one meeting with President Donald Trump. She noted that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts in the region were an important part of the discussion. Dr. Asif remarked that Pakistan has made notable achievements in the fight against terrorism, largely due to the professionalism and dedication of the Pakistan Army. She added that this high-level meeting is expected to contribute positively towards enhancing Pakistan-US cooperation in various fields.
Defense analyst, Lieutenant General (Retd) Raza Muhammad Khan, stated that the meeting between the two leaders covered a wide range of issues, including bilateral cooperation and counter-terrorism efforts. He described the meeting as a positive development, bringing Pakistan and the United States closer on various fronts. He also mentioned that President Trump has shown respect towards Pakistan and its people through this engagement. Khan further emphasized that the one-on-one meeting is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Former Ambassador Amjad Ali Shar, also speaking on the programme, mentioned that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is visiting Washington on the invitation of the Commander of the United States Central Command, and this was an already scheduled visit. Shar highlighted that the meeting with President Donald Trump reflects the importance the United States places on Pakistan and its pivotal role in the region. He expressed that it is encouraging to see Pakistan’s contributions towards promoting peace and stability being recognized and appreciated at the global level. Shar also noted that Field Marshal Asim Munir acknowledged the US role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India during their recent standoff.
