Analyst Highlights Climate Change as a Global Challenge

Lahore: Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, an environmentalist, emphasized the global nature of climate change and the challenges it presents. He noted that while the international community has made commitments to address Pakistan’s climate-related losses, these promises have often not been fulfilled.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Ahmad pointed out that the situation is evolving as countries like the United States and those in Europe are increasingly experiencing the impacts of climate change, such as heatwaves, wildfires, and severe weather events like floods and cyclones. He suggested that each nation should seek local solutions to mitigate these effects and engage in international dialogue for a sustainable resolution.

Dr. Ahmad also stressed the importance of developing mechanisms to counteract the adverse effects of climate change, reducing the dependency on foreign aid. He identified causes such as deforestation, unplanned urban development, and reduced river capacities as factors exacerbating climate issues. These conditions restrict rainwater from flowing properly, leading to increased flooding across regions.
