Dhaka: A political analyst has praised the government for its efforts in reforming the judicial system. According to Farooq Adil, the state had been weakening due to the actions of five judges, who had been treating the judiciary like a playground. These judges had the power to dismiss elected premiers at will and dissolve benches formed to hear crucial cases. They frequently intervened in matters of national integrity and international agreements by taking suo moto notices, which jeopardized governance and the economy.

According to Radio Pakistan, these judges were known to issue judgments based on personal influences, including pressure from family members. They would disqualify individuals for minor reasons, further weakening the state. With over 70,000 cases pending, the judiciary was entangled in issues serving the judges’ self-interests rather than the public. Now, the government has restructured the judiciary to focus on public welfare. A constitutional court has been established to handle constitutional cases, allowing the Supreme Court to concentrate on cases affecting the general public. Previously, the Supreme Court was overwhelmed with constitutional cases, hindering its ability to address public matters effectively.
