Lahore: The 60th Martyrdom Anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, was observed on Friday. Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed was born in Hong Kong in 1928 and moved to Pakistan before independence in 1947, settling in Ladiyan village of district Gujrat. In 1950, he joined the Pakistan Army and was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment. During the Indo-Pak War in September 1965, as a company commander in Burki, Lahore, he decided to stay with his forward platoon and defended the strategic BRB Canal for five days.
According to Radio Pakistan, despite facing constant fire from enemy tanks and artillery, Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed organized the defense of the BRB Canal alongside his soldiers until he was martyred by an enemy shell. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, acknowledging his unforgettable courage and bravery during the 1965 war. The Prime Minister highlighted that Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed’s actions thwarted the enemy’s plans to capture Lahore and ensured victory.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s Armed Forces remain committed to the defense of the nation. He remarked that whenever threats have arisen, officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army have stood resiliently to protect the motherland. He further added that the entire nation supports the armed forces in their steadfast dedication to defending Pakistan.
