Italian Operator EOLO Selects Mavenir 5G SA Core for Europe’s First 5G Standalone mmWave FWA Network

Mavenir’s cloud-native, flexible and agile 5G SA Core solution enables EOLO to cost-effectively deliver FWA broadband services to hard-to-connect areas across Italy

RICHARDSON, Texas, Feb. 11, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Mavenir, the cloud-native network infrastructure provider building the future of networks, has been selected by innovative telecommunications operator EOLO, Italy’s largest fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband provider, to supply the 5G SA Core for its groundbreaking Gbps fixed wireless access network. The deployment is among the world’s first 5G standalone FWA networks using mmWave and will deliver cost-effective ultrafast broadband internet access to areas across Italy not reached by fiber connectivity.

Mavenir’s 5G SA Core was selected by EOLO for its outstanding levels of flexibility and interoperability. The Mavenir solution will work alongside the User Plane Function (UPF) from 6Wind, marking an industry-first for interoperability and subsequent commercial deployment between Session Management Functions (SMF) and User Plane Functions (UPF) from two different vendors.

The Mavenir 5G SA Core will deliver both IP and Ethernet data units (IPDU and EPDU), which has never previously been achieved in a live environment.

Stefano Cantarelli, Executive Vice President at Mavenir, said: “This is one of the most exciting and innovative 5G FWA deployments in the world – it is pushing boundaries and using the very best 3GPP-based technologies available to deliver rural connectivity against all odds. EOLO has selected best-in-class partners for this project and Mavenir is proud to be a part of that team, bringing our 5G leadership and commitment to flexibility and agility.”

Guido Garrone, CEO at EOLO S.p.A., added: “Mavenir is an excellent team player. Their 5G Core is future-proofed, and the interoperability of their solution has enabled EOLO to choose the best partners for each element of this challenging and innovative new network. The infrastructures that we are building together will complement fiber coverage, playing a pivotal role in strengthening networks and driving the country’s future growth.”

Mavenir offers the industry’s only end-to-end cloud-native network software, with its AI-powered technology enabling energy savings, improved user experience, resource optimisation, enhanced security and fraud protection, and monetization. Its MAVcore® functions are implemented as microservices running in containers, using open APIs to integrate with 3rd party platforms and observability frameworks. This allows CSPs such as EOLO to roll-out services faster, increase efficiency, and reduce downtime.

Mavenir’s full 5G portfolio will be displayed at the upcoming MWC Barcelona, March 3-6, in Hall 2, Stand 2H60. For more on Mavenir’s presence at the show visit  https://www.mavenir.com/mwc-2025/#request-a-meeting-mwc

PM Invites Investors to Invest in Pakistan’s Clean Energy & Infrastructure Opportunities

Dubai: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called upon governments to strengthen climate financing and technology sharing. Addressing the World Governments Summit in Dubai, he urged private investors to explore Pakistan’s clean energy and infrastructure opportunities. He emphasized that multilateral institutions should support emerging economies like Pakistan in achieving sustainable growth.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister asserted Pakistan’s commitment to mobilizing domestic resources and implementing policy reforms. However, he highlighted that international partnerships and financial backing are crucial for attaining these objectives, as the global shift to a green economy necessitates shared responsibility. He stated that Pakistan’s energy transition requires an investment of one hundred billion dollars.

Shehbaz Sharif outlined Pakistan’s goals to achieve a sixty percent clean energy mix by 2030 and transition thirty percent of vehicles to electric mobility. The country is rapidly advancing solar, wind, hydropower, and nuclear energy projects. The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan’s southern regions possess fifty thousand megawatts of untapped wind energy potential, while northern hydropower projects will contribute an additional 13,000 megawatts of clean energy capacity.

He further discussed the acceleration of solar energy adoption through policy reforms, tax exemptions, investment incentives, net metering, and waiving customs duties on solar panels and related equipment. The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s dynamic investment landscape in Asia, with seventy percent of its young and tech-savvy population under the age of thirty, and its strategic location bridging South and Central Asia.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s emerging middle class and promising economic opportunities. He mentioned government efforts to simplify business regulations, enhance legal protections, and streamline investment approvals, aiming to position Pakistan as a leading destination for global capital. To drive investments in key sectors, the Special Investment Facilitation Council has been established, focusing on renewable energy, resilient infrastructure, technology, digital economy, minerals, industrial development, and agricultural and food security.

Addressing agricultural production enhancement, the Prime Minister said Pakistan is embracing eco-friendly agricultural innovations to boost productivity, ensure food security, and strengthen the rural economy. The government is working to improve water efficiency through drip irrigation, precision farming, drought-resistant crops, and watershed management to restore depleting aquifers. Additionally, the government is incentivizing agri-tech innovations by providing solar-powered irrigation systems and using renewable energy sources for farm operations.

On the topic of Palestine, Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that genocidal operations would be succeeded by lasting peace. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that a durable and just peace is achievable only through a two-state solution, in line with relevant UN resolutions, for the establishment of an independent state of Palestine with pre-1967 boundaries and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Interior Minister Visits Jinnah Avenue Interchange Project in Islamabad

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the F-8 Jinnah Avenue Interchange project in Islamabad and inspected the finishing work of the under-construction flyover. During the visit, he set a deadline for hundred percent completion of the project by the 18th of this month.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Interior Minister emphasized the swift completion of all project components, particularly the connecting roads and landscaping. He also met with the workers working on the project and appreciated them for working round the clock to meet the deadline. He praised their hard work and encouraged them to continue working with dedication.

Mohsin Naqvi ordered immediate removal of debris around the project site and stressed that any shortcomings in the beautification work would not be tolerated. He also instructed that work on the connecting roads under the flyover should be expedited.

Secretary Interior, Chairman CDA, IG Islamabad Police, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, contractors, and relevant officials were also present on the occasion.

Policy on Terrorism, Foreign Occupation Remains Unchanged: FO

Islamabad: Foreign Office has said that Pakistan’s policy on terrorism and foreign occupation remains unchanged. In response to questions from media regarding Pakistan’s position on terrorism and foreign occupation, Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said we regret that certain media circles through a quaint spin have tried to distort and misrepresent Pakistan’s position on the subject and this also misinterprets OIC and international consensus on counter-terrorism and foreign occupation.

According to Radio Pakistan, during the UN Security Council briefing on “Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts,” the Permanent Representative of Pakistan also stressed addressing the root causes of terrorism that include poverty, foreign occupation, and denial of the right to self-determination to peoples under colonial and foreign domination such as in the occupied territories of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

The Spokesperson said Pakistan and the OIC have long emphasized the need for a comprehensive counter-terrorism approach that addresses the root causes of terrorism, including conflict resolution, the end of foreign occupation, and efforts to eradicate poverty while promoting sustainable economic growth and development.

He further stated that alongside the OIC, Pakistan has consistently maintained that any definition of terrorism must clearly distinguish between acts of terrorism and the legitimate struggles of peoples under foreign or colonial occupation for self-determination and national liberation.
