Hajj Policy to be presented to Federal Cabinet for approval: Aneeq

Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs Aneeq Ahmad says Hajj Policy is being finalized and would be presented to federal cabinet for approval soon.

Talking to Pakistan Observer Chairman Faisal Zahid Malik in Islamabad today he said new Hajj Policy 2024 envisages a number of features such as option for shorter stay, QR code, mobile phone SIM with video call options for 45 days etc.

He said we are engaged with the Saudi government on a number of issues including number of pilgrims.

He also mentioned that the government would provide mobile SIM for 45 days which could also be used for video calls.

DG Radio Pakistan urges youth to understand potential of CPEC

Director General Radio Pakistan Tahir Hassan has urged the youth to understand the vast potential of CPEC project through an inclusive and participatory approach.

He was addressing a digital photography competition organized by Pak-China Institute in Islamabad on Sunday.

The Director General PBC said the vision of connectivity underlying this game changer project is getting clearer with every passing day and the completion of ten years of the project has unfolded its new dimensions.

He commended the way Chinese intellectuals, development and technical experts are coursing this project forward.

Over 50 projects completed under CPEC: Moin-ul-Haque

Pakistan Ambassador in Beijing Moin-ul-Haque says over fifty projects worth twenty five billion dollars have been completed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during the last ten years.

In an interview with Belt and Road Television, he termed CPEC as a game changer which have altered the entire economic landscape and played a pivotal role in the social and economic development of Pakistan.

Terming Pakistan-China Friendship as a bright example for the world, the Ambassador said ties between the two countries are depicts not only a strong political relationship but also shows a heart-to-heart connection among the people of both nations.

The Ambassador expressed pleasure that Chinese nationals consider Pakistanis as an iron brothers and this expression is only reserve for Pakistanis.

Moin-ul-Haque said the Belt and Road Forum is a very important opportunity for all member states to create a roadmap for the future in view of the past achievements.

He said this forum provides a platform for international cooperation for solidarity, development, economic and social welfare and poverty eradication.

Interaction between Pak-China top leaders to propel ties to new heights: Solangi

Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi has said that interaction in China between the top leadership of Pakistan and China will further enhance the bilateral relationship.

Speaking at a seminar “CPEC and My Life”, the Minister said the people have immensely benefitted from various CPEC projects such as Orange Train in Lahore, Thar Coal in Sindh and Gwadar in Balochistan.

He said enhancement of geographical linkages through improved road, rail and air transportation system would boost frequent people-to-people contacts and enhance understanding through academic linkages.

Murtaza Solangi said the higher volume of trade and businesses would result into integrated development which would eventually promote, harmony and sustainable development.

PM to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese leadership during his visit to Beijing: FM

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is undertaking a visit to Beijing to participate in the third Belt and Road Forum from Tuesday.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, while briefing media in Islamabad on Sunday.

Jalil Abbas Jilani said the Prime Minister will also address the high-level forum with a theme of "Connectivity in an Open Global Economy".

He said the Prime Minister will have bilateral meetings with the Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and other leading personalities. Besides, he will meet with the participating global leaders, who are coming to attend the third BRF.

The Foreign Minister said meetings with top Chinese businessmen, including heads of large corporations and business giants are also on the cards. These meetings will discuss the cooperation that can be forged, including joint ventures in Pakistan. He further said that a number of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding will be signed during the visit. The possible MoUs will be signed in the areas of agriculture, health, industry, green energy, and space technology.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that the visit will help strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and China and provides an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation, including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Jalil Abbas Jilani after concluding activities in Beijing, the Prime Minister will visit the Chinese Province of Xinjiang, which is the main artery of CPEC. He said Xinjiang is an important region, which borders Pakistan and connects China with eight other countries as well. He said the Prime Minister, during his stay in the region, will address the Xinjiang University and interact with the business community of the province. Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will also say his Friday prayer at the Grand Mosque of Xinjiang.

Talking about the evolving situation in Gaza, the Foreign Minister said an Extra-Ordinary Emergency Meeting of the Executive Committee of the OIC is being held in Jeddah on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Palestine. He said will represent Pakistan at the forum.

The Foreign Minister said Israel has committed an aggression and conducted airstrikes on the civilian population, resulting in the death of innocent civilians, including women and children. He said Pakistan condemns the siege of Gaza. He said people have no water, food and health facility, which creates a humanitarian crisis. He said Israel is committing a genocide against the poor people of Palestine.

Jalil Abbas Jilani demanded of Israel to respect the international law and UN Security Council resolutions on Palestine, recognizing Palestinians' right to self-determination. He said it is also a result of seven decades of illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories by Israel that must be vacated and UN resolutions must be respected. He said any attempt to equate Israel's aggression to that of Palestinians' struggle is unacceptable to Pakistan.

Maintaining Pakistan's stance, the Foreign Minister said Palestinians' right to self-determination must be respected and Palestine should be given a status of separate and independent state, accepted by not only Israel but also the international community with pre-1967 borders with Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Answering a question, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan is in touch with the relevant quarters, including the United Nations and other aid agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to the besieged people of Gaza.

Replying to another question about New Delhi's delaying tactics in issuing visas to Pakistani spectators, who are wishing to watch the cricket World Cup matches being held in India, Jalil Abbas Jilani said India has violated the international norms by not letting Pakistani cricket lovers and media persons to enjoy and cover the sport live from the ground.

He said the Foreign Office and the Pakistan Cricket Board have raised this matter with the relevant Indian authorities, through diplomatic channels. He said it is a matter of grave concern for Pakistan and Islamabad will continue to press this issue with the Indian authorities. He said it is condemnable and unfortunate that India has set a wrong precedent by politicizing a sporting event.

FBR Asks Field Formations to Take Action Against Culprits in Rs. 315 Billion Tax Fraud

The Federal Board of Revenue has asked field formations to take action against those involved in a Rs. 314.8 billion sales tax dummy companies fraud.

Sources said the Regional Tax Office-I Karachi in its communication with regard to lodging of FIR against KH and Sons and others on account of Rs. 314.8 billion sales tax fraud said the details of buyers/suppliers involved in the supply chain have already been shared with the concerned field formations with the request to take actions in accordance with law against the registered persons falling under their respective jurisdiction.

Moreover, KH and Sons and Mohsin Traders have been blacklisted in terms of section 21(2) of the Sales Tax Act. 1990 read with Rule 12 of the Sales Tax Rules, 2006.

Sources said that during the scrutiny of sales tax return/registration profiles of KH and Sons for the period Feb-Aug-2023, it was revealed that the said registered person has got sales tax registration dated 02-03-2023 and declared a huge purchase amounting to Rs. 1,748 billion involving sales tax amounting to Rs. 314.8 billion in the month of April 2023.

The fake/bogus input tax amounting to Rs. 314.8 billion was created by the buyer (KH and Sons) in connivance with the supplier (Mohsin Traders and Sales Promoters). Subsequently, KH and Sons declared supplies amounting to Rs. 1,732 billion involving sales tax of Rs 314.8 billion in the month of July 2023 to various buyers.

Sources said that FBR is trying its best to locate the main mastermind Owais Ismail as he has shifted his office to some other place.
