PM leaves for Azerbaijan on two-day official visit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has left for Azerbaijan on a two-day official visit.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will meet Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev. Besides, a delegation of Azerbaijan's cabinet members will also call on Shehbaz Sharif to promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and energy.

He is accompanying members of the federal cabinet including Syed Naveed Qamar, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Marryium Auranbzeb, Musadik Malik and Tariq Fatemi.

France to provide €180m soft loan for NTDC projects located in Sialkot, Arifwala, Vehari

France will provide 180 million Euros' soft loan for the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) projects located in Sialkot, Arifwala, Vehari.

Credit Facility Agreement to this effect was signed in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Federal Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz, Ambassador of France Nicolas Galey and Country Director of the French Development Agency Philippe Steinmetz signed the agreement.

This loan will support the NTDC in its transmission mandate to provide reliable and efficient power supply in major cities of Punjab.

The funding will also help enhance the transmission of efficient power distribution in Pakistan. Such benefits will contribute to improving affordability and scaling up the energy supply.

On the occasion, the Federal Secretary thanked the French Government and AFD for extending this financial assistance to Pakistan.

Ahsan calls for collective efforts to achieve SDGs

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called upon international partners, civil society and private sector to join hands with Pakistan to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad today, he expressed Pakistan's commitment to achieve SDGs by 2030.

The Minister said under the banner of revival of economy, the economy pillar focuses on fostering economic growth and stability.

Ahsan Iqbal said under this strategic pillar the ministry has allocated a significant portion of the budget towards the infrastructure development including the construction of transportation networks, power plants and industrial zones.

He said these efforts will attract investments, promote entrepreneurship, and create employment opportunities.

He said government is committed to provide quality education to the youth. He said substantial investments have been made to renovate educational infrastructure. He said 131 percent budget has been increased for Higher Education Commission which shows government's commitment for education.

Ahsan Iqbal said the ministry has also allocated funds for renewable energy projects, waste management, systems for preserving natural resources and water security.

He said a new initiative of green revolution 2.0 has been started to make Pakistan self-sufficient in food.

The Minister said government has allocated a significant portion of budget for social development. He said a new project has been initiated to develop twenty poorest districts of the country.

He said it is unfortunate that democratic governments did not devolved power to the local governments. He said empowering local governments is imperative for democracy and the development of the country.
