PM briefs international media on flood ravages in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with the members of international media on Tuesday and briefed them about flood ravages in Pakistan.

In a tweet, he said the devastation is evidence of seriousness of the threat posed by climate change. He said despite having less than one percent share in carbon emission, Pakistan is ranked 8th in terms of exposure to climate hazards.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the international community, particularly the developed world, should not leave developing countries like Pakistan at the mercy of climate change.

He said if it is us today, it can be somebody else tomorrow. He said the threat of climate change is real, potent and staring us in the face.

Turkish Speaker expresses grief over losses by floods in Pakistan

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye Mustafa Sentop telephoned Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and expressed his grief over the losses caused by floods in Pakistan.

Mustafa Sentop said his country stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in this difficult hour. He said our hearts beat with the hearts of Pakistani brothers and sisters.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf briefed him about the devastation caused by the floods. He said both the countries have always stood by each other in difficult times.

He commended the immediate dispatch of relief goods by Turkiye for the flood victims.

On appeal of PM, philanthropists donate Rs20m to help flood-affected people

On the appeal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, philanthropists donated 20 million rupees to help the flood-affected people of the country.

The philanthropists, belonging to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, handed over cheques to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said helping the flood-hit people is not less than worship. He appealed the nation to contribute for the flood victims.

The Prime Minister said millions of people have become homeless due to folds across Pakistan. He said over 1,100 people have lost their lives in the devastating floods. He said the government is rescuing people in priority basis. He said provision of cash assistance of 25,000 rupees has immediately been started to the flood affected people. Besides, ration, clean drinking water, tents, and mosquito nets are also being provided to victims of flood.

The delegation commended the Prime Minister for the emergency rescue and relief operations.

First flight from UAE carrying flood relief assistance arrives at Noor Khan Air Base Rawalpindi

First flight from the United Arab Emirates carrying flood relief assistance arrived at Noor Khan Air Base Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

The relief items include food, medical supplies and tents for the flood affectees.

In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed thanked the government and people of UAE for this continued assistance.

He said this is continuation of humanitarian air bridge between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates established to alleviate the sufferings of flood affectees.

Funds from development budget to be diverted for reconstruction of flood-hit areas: Ahsan

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said funds from the development budget will be diverted for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said according to preliminary estimates, ten billion dollars will be required for the rehabilitation of flood affected areas.

He, however, said the calamity has also provided an opportunity to build back the lives of poor households in an organized manner.

Ahsan Iqbal said the country is faced with food security challenge due to the unprecedented floods and steps are being taken on emergency basis to ensure supplies of essential commodities to the people. For this purpose, alternative options such as imports of items are also being considered.

Ahsan Iqbal said the calamity has claimed over 1150 lives and damaged about one million houses. The floods have affected thirty million people.

The Minister for Planning said that the PML-N in its last tenure had prepared a flood protection program. He however regretted that the PTI government did not spend a penny on the implementation of this program. He said had the program been implemented, the current losses caused to infrastructure, agriculture and human lives could be averted to a great extent.

Ahsan Iqbal also strongly condemned the PTI for trying to sabotage the IMF Program. He said the revival of IMF program has provided a space to the government whose efforts are focused on turning around the economy and putting it on strong footing.

Govt aims to promote business, trade in Pakistan: Miftah

Head of International Affairs Metro Germany Illa Brockmeyer called on Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail at in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Managing Director Metro Pakistan Marek Minkiewicz, Director Corporate Affairs Pervaiz Akhtar, Deputy Head of Mission Dr. Philip Deichmann, Chairman FBR and other senior officers from Finance Division also attended the meeting.

The delegation briefed the Finance Minister about the operational nature of Metro and shared the encouraging prospects of their business in Pakistan.

Furthermore, they appreciated the business friendly policies of the present government and apprised the Finance Minister about the few issues being faced by them.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail shared that present government aims at promoting the business and trade in Pakistan and every required step is being undertaken to facilitate the investors.

He also added that the bilateral relations of Pakistan and Germany are continuously deepening and strengthening specifically on economic front and Pakistan further aims at expanding these relations.

He assured the Metro delegation that their stated issues will be resolved at earliest time possible and directed the relevant authorities to take action in this regard.
