Societal attitude towards persons with disability needs to be changed: Pirzada

Minister for Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada says societal attitude towards persons with disability needs to be changed for their better participation and integration into the society.

Inaugurating the up-gradation project of National Special Education Centre for visually handicapped children today (Wednesday) at the National Library and Resource Center Islamabad, he said in the present age, everyone is well aware of the significance of modern technology.

He said without technology, we will neither be able to make real progress, nor to compete with other nations.

The Minister said for people with visual impairments, assistive devices based on advanced technology have become a beneficial source of education.

He applauded the efforts and team work for providing the sophisticated assistive devices and facilities of technical assistance in the center. He said that training on modern terms will be a stepping stone for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in the society.

While highlighting the main objectives of project, Director General Special Education, Sheikh Azhar Sajjad informed the audience that the latest digital assistive devices have been introduced in the center for visually challenged persons.

He said diagnostic or screening process will be carried out by an expert ophthalmologist and a qualified optometrist.

The project is started under the administrative control of Directorate General of Special Education, Ministry of Human Rights. It will provide services for screening, diagnosis and training of visually impaired persons through the use of advanced technological facilities.

PM vows to make Pakistan industrial hub of Asia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that government is committed to make Pakistan an industrial hub of Asia through massive investment.

He was talking to a delegation of Bahraini companies in Islamabad on Wednesday night.

The Prime Minister also directed all concerned institutions to utilize all their resources to provide every possible facility to Bahraini investors on priority basis.

During the meeting, Board of Investment gave a detailed briefing to the Bahraini delegation about investment opportunities in different sectors of Pakistan including health, tourism, hotel industry, housing, Information Technology, food and agriculture.

The delegation was informed that Pakistan is an ideal place for investment in the region due to its strategic location, young population, skilled manpower, abundant natural resources and business friendly environment.

The Bahraini delegation pledged to take full advantage of the investment opportunities in Pakistan, and signalled the start of investment in the hotel and housing sectors in the next six months.

The delegation also expressed interest in investing in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries and construction.
