19th Death Anniversary of Poet Munir Niazi Commemorated


Islamabad: The 19th death anniversary of Urdu and Punjabi poet Munir Niazi is being observed today. Munir Niazi, born on April 9, 1923, in Hoshiarpur, eastern Punjab, left an indelible mark on the literary world with his prolific body of work.



According to Radio Pakistan, Munir Niazi’s contributions to literature include thirteen collections of poetry in Urdu and three in Punjabi. His notable Urdu works, such as “Taiz Hawa aur Tanha Phool,” “Jungle main Dhanak,” and “Mah-e-Munir,” are celebrated for their depth and unique style. In Punjabi, his prominent works include “Safar di Raat,” “Char Chup Cheezan,” and “Rasta Dasan Walay Teray,” which continue to resonate with readers.



In addition to his poetry, Munir Niazi also penned songs for various films. These songs gained significant popularity, showcasing his versatility and talent as a lyricist. Niazi’s legacy endures through his writings, which have inspired many in the literary community. His death on this day in Lahore in 2006 marked the end of a remarkable journey, but his work continues to live on in the hearts of poetry enthusiasts worldwide.
