Director General of the Union of OIC News Agencies Dr. Issa Khaireh Robleh met on Monday with Chairman of Egypt's State Information Service Dr. Diaa Rashwan in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, and they discussed methods of enhancing cooperation between the two organizations and ways of serving the Islamic Ummah.
Dr. Rashwan welcomed the Union's delegation, which is on an official visit to Egypt, stressing the full support of his country to cooperate in various fields, especially fields pertaining to training and development of human resources. He also expressed the state's support to the Union's Media Delegations program, which aims to convey the genuine image of the member states of the OIC.
On his part, Dr. Robleh expressed his happiness to visit the Arab Republic of Egypt, and to meet with its ministers and officials, stressing the Union's keenness of benefitting from the great experiences of Egypt's State Information Service in its programs.
The two parties discussed the possibility of convening a conference that brings together news agencies of the Muslim world to prepare plans for the media in fighting extremism, terrorism, and violence, as well as fighting misconceptions about Islam and showing it in its true moderate image.
Dr. Robleh also briefed Dr. Rashwan on the history of the Union, which was established in 1972 under the name International Islamic News Agency, an organ of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and later transormed into the Union of OIC News Agencies in 2017, and carried the missions of serving as an umbrella for news agencies of OIC member states, developing of news agencies in the OIC, facilitating the transfer of information, and setting up frameworks in order to defend Islamic causes.
Also, the director general presented Dr. Rashwan with a report about the Union's media support for Egypt.
