Steps afoot to ensure availability of fertilizers to farmers, NA told

The National Assembly resumed its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday evening with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair.

The House offered Fateha for the departed souls of the security personnel, who laid their lives in defence of the motherland and in fighting anti-social elements.

MNA Salahuddin Ayubi led the fateha.

The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the government is taking all possible measures to ensure availability of fertilizers in sufficient quantities to facilitate the farmers in the country.

Responding to a point of order regarding shortage of fertilizers in the country, Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar said although domestic supplies are there, ships carrying fertilizers from China will soon reach Pakistan to fulfill the needs of the country.

Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the government is exploring all available options to ensure availability of fertilizers.

He said tracking devices will be fitted in all the trucks carrying fertilizers and wheat to check smuggling of the commodities.

He said geo-tagging of bags of fertilizers and wheat is also on the cards to prevent their smuggling.

The House adopted a motion allowing use of the chamber of the National Assembly on 21st June 2022 or any other day or date for the briefing for the parliamentary committee on National Security.

The motion was moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbsi.
