Sadr’s alliance wins Iraqi election recount

In Iraq, Moqtada al-Sadr’s alliance has retained its lead in parliamentary election after recount the vote, paving the way for it to form government.

Iraq’s Independent High Election Commission released the results of the recount on its website on Friday.

The results of the recount matched the initial results, with Sadr keeping his tally of 54 seats. A group led by Hadi Al-Amiri remained second with 48, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s bloc in third place with 42 seats in Iraq’s 329-seat’s parliament.
