President Vows to Make GB a Model of Development

Gilgit: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed the resolve to make Gilgit Baltistan a model of development, justice, and equality. Addressing the Gilgit Baltistan Independence Day ceremony in Gilgit, he emphasized that this region is not only the crown of Pakistan but also its northern gateway and a symbol of lasting friendship with China.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President mentioned that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project has brought new opportunities for livelihoods, trade, and connectivity to Gilgit Baltistan. He stated that the collective task is to ensure these opportunities reach every valley and village, creating shared prosperity for all.

Paying tributes to the martyrs and Ghazis of Gilgit Baltistan, the President highlighted the ongoing struggle of people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that while the people of Gilgit Baltistan enjoy liberty and rights under the flag of Pakistan, those in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir continue to face occupational repression. Pakistan, he stressed, stands with the people of IIOJK until they can live in freedom in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.

President Zardari praised the people of Gilgit Baltistan for their contributions over the last seven decades, marching alongside the rest of Pakistan. He acknowledged their role in guarding the borders, advancing progress, and carrying the country’s flag to the world’s highest peaks.

The President also highlighted the region’s potential in tourism and its immense natural resources, emphasizing the need for better health and education facilities.
