PM Calls for Global Unity for Peace and Collective Security

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called upon the world to stand united in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening collective security. Addressing the Inter-parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, he expressed confidence that nations can collectively build a world anchored in lasting peace and shared prosperity.

According to Radio Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan has consistently advocated for peace through dialogue and diplomacy. He articulated the belief that peace and security form the foundation of sustainable national and regional development. He noted that the true value of peace is most profoundly understood when confronted with conflicts that continue to plague the world. Pakistan, having faced turbulence both directly and indirectly, remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan faced unprovoked aggression from the eastern front in May. He commended the highly professional armed forces for their remarkable preparedness and outstanding performance on the battlefield. Their swift and decisive military action on land and in the air thwarted the enemy’s designs and demonstrated Pakistan’s iron resolve to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Despite winning the war, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to win peace through sincere and honest efforts.

Shehbaz Sharif also stressed that a peaceful Afghanistan is key to regional connectivity, growth, progress, and prosperity. He regretted that militant groups continue to threaten peace within Afghanistan and beyond its borders. Referring to attacks on Pakistan’s border posts last month, he stated that Pakistan’s response was firm and decisive, serving as an unforgettable lesson to those who attacked. He urged Afghanistan to understand that lasting peace can only be realized by reining in the TTP and other terrorist groups on Afghan territory.

The Prime Minister underscored the reforms undertaken by the government to promote inclusive growth, institutional strengthening, and the empowerment of youth and women. Pakistan has actively engaged with international financial institutions and development partners to foster fiscal reforms, climate resilience, and investment facilitation. He reiterated that no nation can prosper in isolation and emphasized Pakistan’s belief in global interaction and multilateralism.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the indispensable role of Parliaments in improving lives. Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani, in his remarks, emphasized that parliaments must serve as beacons of guidance, calling for collective thought, commitment, and action. He underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue as a bridge fostering cooperation.

Gillani also addressed the challenge posed by Climate Change, urging parliamentary leaders to shape a legislative agenda that recognizes its complexity and ensures national security remains rooted in equitable human development.
