Pakistan's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr. Maleeha Lodhi met here on Wednesday with Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, chef de cabinet to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
During the meeting, the Pakistani envoy asked for the world body's chief to play his due role in the crisis set off by India's revocation of occupied Kashmir's special status, as she continued to brief her counterparts on the deteriorating situation in the region, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported quoting informed sources.
Also during her meeting with the chef de cabinet, Lodhi also asked for the UN Secretary-General, who is away from New York, to demand that India comply with Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir that prohibit any alteration in the status of the disputed region.
In a separate development, the Secretary General's spokesman said that the UN was making contacts with the parties at various levels', but did not specify the level of those engagements. Meanwhile, Pakistan downgraded the diplomatic ties with India, as well as suspending the bilateral trade with the neighboring country in the wake of illegal actions by the Indian government over occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The decisions were taken in a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) held on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
